The Tavares brothers — Arthur Tavares, Ralph Vierra Tavares, Perry Lee Tavares, Antone Tavares, and Feliciano Tavares nicknamed “Pooch,” “Tiny,” “Chubby,” and “Butch” — started the group in 1964 as Chubby and the Turnpikes in New Bedford, MA.

It's hard to believe we have been singing and performing for almost 40 years.  Today we are just Butch, Pooch and myself but we still enjoy seeing our fans and getting up on stage and giving 100% for our many loyal fans around the world. 

Hopefully we will continue to sing for many years to come and we look forward to our fans' continued support and love.

In a decade that highlighted so many groups, from the last Detroit days of Motown to the arrival of hot sounds in Philadelphia and Los Angeles, the Tavares brothers proved themselves to be incredibly versatile, effectively covering all of those sounds as well as a unique sound that they introduced in Love Uprising.

Their wonderful harmonies and consistently strong selection of material made every one of their albums a keeper.
